Like most people, Keylin Mosley knew that death is inevitable, but he never expected it. 15-year-old Mosely- a former DPS student- experienced the unexpected early on October 9th around two in the morning. He and his friend jumped into Keith Hammock’s 2830 High Street backyard in attempts to steal growing marijuana, and Mosley never made it out alive.

The house owner, Hammock, is being investigated in suspicion that he shot both teens with a .22-caliber rifle while they were trespassing in his backyard. Hammock explained that his backyard light turned on after detecting movement, and when he went to check it out both kids were lying on the floor. The situation is still under investigation.

The young teen who survived got shot twice; once in the backyard and supposedly again while trying to climb back over the fence to escape the mother of the kid stated, according to dailymail.com.

Inside of Hammock’s house, there were multiple guns in addition to a handgun that was found in the backyard. Hammock is under investigation for murder. The “Make My Day” law- a Colorado law that allows property owners “[to use] force against a home invader, including deadly force”- is being brought up, but it is not clear whether the kids posed a threat towards Mr. Hammock or not.
